Narcissists play games because they enjoy drama and chaos. A healthy, functional environment is very boring for them. And they need constant entertainment. So they will manipulate you. They will trick and deceive you. They will play games with you. They will mess with your mind. If you let them. Which is why you must set strong boundaries when you are dealing with a narcissist. You must set a standard for what you expect from them. Otherwise they will think that they can treat you however they like. They will be very arrogant and entitled. And they will start making these unrealistic demands. Because they have an exaggerated sense of their own abilities and importance. So they will have you doing all kinds of things for them. They will have you jumping through hoops. They will have you following their lead. While they're breaking you down. But they can't take anything from you. They're too weak. Which is why they have to manipulate you into doing things for them. They have to play games.
They can't make you give them attention. They can't make you give them your money. They have to manipulate you into doing that. Because they need to extract resources from you. So first they will pretend that they like you. They will pretend like they're on your team. They will give you future faking. They will give you false promises. But then once they've got what they want from you, they're out of there. Because you let them manipulate you. You didn't set a standard. Narcissists play games because they want power and control. They want the ability to direct and influence your behaviour and the course of events. Because they're very insecure. Which is why they depend on you to provide them with a sense of security and stability. Narcissists enjoy controlling their targets. It gives them a thrill to see you chasing after them. To see you jumping through hoops. So that you never realise that they're just wasting your time. Which is why if they're not doing what you want them to do, you need to get rid of them. Because life is too short to be dealing with people who are just wasting your time. People who are playing you. They're not going to be any good for you. But as soon as you stop giving them your attention, they will come running back. Because it's just a game. It's a competition. And your attention is the prize. Your attention is their currency. It is the most valuable thing that you can give to a narcissist. But it would be better invested into yourself and into your own life.
